The Difference Between A Lace Front vs Full Lace Wig
Whether you’re starting to wear wigs, have been wearing them for years, or simply want to know more about these hair pieces, you’re going to come across the terms “lace front” and “full lace”. Right off the bat these two terms are different and have different meanings even though they may sound similar. In this blog post we’re going to be diving deeper about what these two different hair pieces are and which one is best for you. Lace Front Wigs
Human hair lace front wigs are wigs with a piece of lace that is placed at the hairline position of the head. The size of the lace can be different depending on the size, but most of the time it ranges from 13x4 to 13x6. The virgin hair is then placed and sewn into the hold of the lace by hand, making it more natural looking. The entire lace front wig is made out of a thinner yet firm material that allows the hair to be sewn in, but gives enough flexibility so you don't have that stiff volume at the crown of your head. Lace front wigs require that you bond the lace to the area of your head, which then allows for easier wearing.
Full Lace Wigs
Full lace virgin hair wigs are wigs where the entire base of the wig or whole head section is covered by that same lace material. The virgin hair is knotted into the lace by hand and allows you to bond the entire wig to your head, not just the front section. This may require a different type of glue or something with a stronger bond. If you have questions about wig glue and specific brands to use, connect with our specialists directly! Which one should I choose?
While we can give you our takes about which one you should choose, it’s all up to you in the end. Typically, if you’re a beginner wig wearer, most will reach for a lace front. Since you only have one section to glue down they can be deemed a bit easier to apply and sometimes can be more comfortable than full lace. Depending on where and for how long you’re wearing a wig, a more comfortable and breathable wig might be a better option.
Both types of wigs are extremely durable but since full lace wigs are pasted to the head entirely, they tend to have a slightly stronger durability. Sometimes wearers will even go swimming in full lace wigs because they have that capability. While chlorine and saltwater can be harsh on wigs, you can exercise or move around freely without the worry of the wig dropping or damage. With lace fronts, you’re going to want to be a bit more conscious of wearing the wig throughout the day or night. Since you only have it glued down in the front, if the glue starts to break down, you might need to readjust. Your hairline or wigline is what makes the wig look natural, so be careful to not have your wig line slip up or fall too much.
Full lace wigs will also require you to wear a wig cap since you have to paste the entire wig down to your head. You can still wear a wig cap with a lace front, but if you don’t wear a wig cap, since you’re only pasting the front section down, you don’t need a wig cap.
The styling of these two types of wigs may be different too, which can help you decide what type of wig you want to invest in. You can comb many different types of hairstyles with full lace wigs. You can even go for the famous Ariana Grande high ponytail. Lace front wigs may limit your styling. Typically you can only comb the middle part or side part when wearing a lace front wig. If you’re going to be styling the wig yourself, you might want to go for a wig with more versatility, but there are wig stylists that can help give you any kind of look regardless if it’s a lace front or full lace wig.
Once again, you have to make the decision for what type of wig you want to wear and what is going to be most comfortable for you.
